You need to ask yourself:

"What is my Data Backup and Recovery Plan and how long can I afford to be without my critical systems and data?"

Your plan should include at least the following:

1. Detailed audit ensuring that all critical data is being backed up.
2. Daily backups and a full backup at least one a week.
3. Quarterly backup and restore tests.
4. One copy of your backup stored away from your system and off-site for security.

Now ask yourself one last question:

"Can my current backup solution truly protect my data?"

For most companies, the answer to these questions is either, "No" or "I don't know."

There are two main reasons for this:

1. Implementation of tape based backup. Tape based backup solutions fail regularly. In fact tape drives are a cheap, 50 year old technology that are highly unreliable for keeping data safe and have a 100% failure rate.
2. Human Error. Without automation and a dependence on tape, backups need to be watched very carefully by employees. Often times, problems with the tapes or backup software are preventing your data from being protected with anyone even knowing there is a problem.
